Do Unto Others
This week I am featuring an article written by one of my closest friends, Jason Cruise. We have spent many lunches at Bishop’s in Franklin, TN discussing God, marriage, children, business and too many subjects to mention. Jason eloquently sums up in the following paragraphs my personal philosophy. I felt it was appropriate to share this with you in its entirety. (Check out a link to Jason’s bio at the end of the blog).
Every company sells something; yet, in the end, the only true product that stands the test of time is the relationship between the company and the customer. Anyone can deliver a product, but few can deliver on the power of authentic relationships that earn trust; and, trust is what brings repeat business. It matters not what you sell in terms of a market niche. Life, as well as is business, will forever come down to relating to people; and, that is where the caliber of character cannot fail but surface.
When people treat one another the way they want to be treated, it reveals the power of the motive behind the company, and their person, doing the selling. I can think of few things in this life that have the power of “motive”. Motive determines the way you answer a customer when they ask you the tough question. Motive determines the words you choose as you try and explain your most recent short-comings to the leader that you answer to on a regular basis. Ask yourself, “What was my motive in that situation?” In that moment your heart will hold up its own mirror and reveal what you are really trying to accomplish from the very beginning. Motive is everything, because motive comes from the heart, and the heart drives your every action.
All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD. – Proverbs 16:2
Have a great week!
